Davide Abbatescianni (Bari, 16 September 1991) is a journalist and film critic based in Rome.

His background includes a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and Film Semiotics (University of Bari Aldo Moro, Italy), a three-year professional diploma in Stage Direction (ITACA – International Theatre of the Adriatic, Italy), a master’s degree in Documentary Directing (Baltic Film and Media School, Estonia), and some doctoral studies as an Excellence Scholar in Film and Screen Media (University College Cork, Ireland).

Since 2017, he works as an International Reporter for the EU-funded portal Cineuropa, where he regularly writes about European cinema, covers the major festivals and markets and reviews new releases. His bylines also appeared on other international trades and outlets such as Variety (USA), The Calvert Journal (UK), The New Arab (UK), New Scientist (UK/USA), POV Magazine (Canada), Celluloid Junkie (USA), Business Doc Europe (UK), Al Jazeera English (UK), the Reader’s Digest (UK), Filmexplorer (Switzerland), Film Ireland (Ireland), Cinemafemme.com (USA), Cannes Market News (France), Licensing Magazine (Italy), 8 ½ (Italy), Projektor (Germany), the Europa Distribution’s blog (Belgium) and the Independent Cinema Office’s blog (UK).

Since 2021, he works a film curator for the project Support to EU Film Festivals, whose primary goals are to create a yearly catalogue of European titles and to enhance the quality of festivals organised by the delegations of the European Union worldwide. Occasionally, he also works as a festival consultant and funding expert. He also serves as a guest lecturer in film criticism and journalism for third-level institutions and festivals.

He is a member of FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics), ICS (International Cinephile Society), FEDEORA (Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean), NECS (European Network for Cinema and Media Studies) and ODG (Ordine Nazionale dei Giornalisti).
